Hog Trough Fire Daily Update August 31, 2022

CURRENT STATUS There is minimal active fire behavior on the Hog Trough fire. Crews monitored the edge of the fire, holding fireline and looking for hot spots and signs for increasing fire behavior as the area starts to dry out with a high-pressure system persisting this week. Today, crews will continue to look for any remaining hot spots that need to be extinguished and continue chipping operations along Forest Service road 5070 and 5071.

CURRENT STATUS Yesterday on the southwest flank of the fire, there was minimal fire activity. Crews monitored the edge of the fire, holding fireline and looking for hot spots and signs for increasing fire behavior as the area starts to dry out following recent precipitation. Today, crews will continue to hold and improve line, looking for any remaining hot spots that need to be extinguished. Improvements on the Weasel Creek Trail are complete and the crews will continue pulling the hoselay from this area.

Today, crews will continue to hold and improve line, looking for any remaining hot spots that need to be extinguished. Improvements on the Weasel Creek Trail are complete and the crews will begin pulling the hoselay from this area.

CURRENT STATUS The Western Montana All Hazards Type 3 Incident Management Team took command of the Hog Trough Fire at 6:00 PM yesterday. Crews have been working to steer the fire into previously burned areas to the south where fire intensity will be lower. On the north and northwest flanks of the fire, the fire is contained and is now in patrol status.

CURRENT STATUS The Hog Trough Fire is still benefitting from recent precipitation brought when strong thunderstorms moved over the fire area recently. Crews have been working to steer the fire into previously burned areas to the south where fire intensity will be lower. On the north and northwest flanks of the fire, the fire is contained and is now in patrol status. Today, the Central Montana Type 3 Incident Management Team will transition command of the fire to the Western Montana Type 3 IMT.
