McCall, Idaho – The Elkhorn Fire is 26,048 acres and 88% complete. Minimal smoldering fire activity has been observed. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected today. Warmer drier weather is expected early next week. While recent precipitation has helped to substantially limit fire activity and growth, some heat may remain in the heavy dead and down vegetation on the forest floor until the area receives significant, repeated rain or snow.
McCall, Idaho – The Elkhorn Fire is 26,048 acres and 74% complete. A Flood Watch is in effect until midnight Tuesday, August 22, 2023, due to near-record levels of precipitation and atmospheric moisture associated with the remnants of Hurricane Hilary. Periods of heavy rainfall and scattered showers are expected to continue through Tuesday with up to a quarter to half inch of additional precipitation projected for some areas.

McCall, Idaho – The Elkhorn Fire remains 26,048 acres and 45% complete.  Today will be warmer with the chance of showers increasing into the evening. A major weather change will begin on Sunday when the first surge of tropical moisture moves north into our region. Potential heavy rainfall from moisture associated with Hurricane Hilary could increase risk of flooding, rock and mudslides, and debris flows. Heavy rainfall (over an inch) is expected Sunday through Tuesday.
McCall, Idaho – The Elkhorn Fire remains 26,048 acres and 45% complete. The weather pattern begins to change today as upper level high pressure pushes farther east, allowing for increasing atmospheric moisture into the region. Temperatures will cool on average ten degrees from previous days, along with daytime humidity increasing.
McCall, Idaho – The Elkhorn Fire is 26,048 acres and 45% complete. The National Incident Management Organization (NIMO) Team 4 has assumed command of the Elkhorn Fire. Fire personnel and equipment continue minimize fire impacts to private property, Forest Service administrative sites/infrastructure, and primary travel corridors along the Main Salmon River Corridor, Whitewater Road, and the Magruder Road Corridor.
McCall, Idaho – The Elkhorn fire is currently at 25,978 acres with 40% completed. The firefighters will monitor the west perimeter along the 421 road. The heavy equipment task force is working north and east of the fire in thick underbrush, using chippers to reduce the fallen fuel load for later disposal. Hand crews will work in that area at least two more days to construct heavy fuel breaks that follow the 505 UTV trail, then continue into the previous Shissler Wildfire from 2020.
McCall, Idaho – The Elkhorn Fire currently stands at 25,980 acres and 45% complete. Hot and dry conditions continue to cause isolated torching and short runs within the confinement line of the fire. Today, high temps are expected to be in triple digits in the Salmon River Corridor and in the high 90’s in the surrounding area.

Firefighters remain along the west flank of the fire along Trout Creek and Whitewater Wilderness Ranch to ensure private inholdings and values along the Salmon River Corridor are secure. Crews are constructing fuel breaks from 9553 to 9550 road to the Magruder Road, where indirect lines will the follow the 505 UTV trail, then continuing into the previous Shissler Wildfire from 2020.
