This week Grindstone District firefighters are continuing to burn piles in the Letts Lake basin, pending favorable weather conditions. Firefighters will attempt ignitions on 65 acres today. On the Upper Lake District firefighters were unsuccessful yesterday burning in the Bartlett Springs area due to high winds. That prescribed burn has been postponed until next week when conditions look more favorable.All prescribed fire operations are carefully monitored, and firefighters will conduct patrols following burning operations.

Conditions have been ideal for prescribed fire with cool temperatures and wet weather. Firefighters on the Grindstone District are planning to burn another 50-60 acres today in the Letts Lake basin. After ignitions today, the units will remain in patrol status over the weekend and into next week. Some smoke may be visible. Dry and warmer weather will return Friday over the weekend, but an active weather pattern is in the forecast for next week. Starting today through Thursday, firefighters on the Grindstone Ranger District plan to burn piles in the Letts Lake basin, potentially 20 acres pending favorable conditions. Firefighters are taking advantage of cool and wet weather conditions to burn piles in preparation of future reforestation in these units.

Today on the Upper Lake Ranger District, firefighters will attempt up to 12 acres of pile burning in the North Shore project, pending favorable conditions. The unit is located above High Valley Ridge across from the Lakeview Campground. Firefighters are taking advantage of a short break in wet weather to burn these hand piles in preparation of future tree planting. Communities in the North Shore may see smoke but should not be alarmed as prescribed fire activities are closely monitored.

Today on the Grindstone Ranger District, firefighters will attempt burning up to 52 acres of piles along the M5 Road and at administrative sites, Paskenta Station and Stonyford Station. Pending favorable conditions, firefighters will continue pile burning tomorrow in units along the M5 Road.Firefighters on the Upper Lake District have completed 42 acres of pile burning along the M1 Road since last week. The district is looking at additional burning opportunities next week in the North Shore project area.

On the Upper Lake Ranger District, firefighters completed 22 acres of pile burning yesterday along the M1 Rd. Today firefighters will be burning another 13 acres of piles.On the Grindstone District firefighters will attempt burning potentially up to 150 acres of piles in the Letts Lake basin pending favorable conditions.Some smoke may be visible. Please avoid the area and know that prescribed fire activities are carefully monitored.

Today at the Chico Seed Orchard firefighters will be burning up to 10 acres of piles, pending favorable conditions. Some smoke may be visible. Please avoid the area and know that prescribed fire activities are carefully monitored. On the Upper Lake Ranger District, firefighters accomplished 12 acres of pile burning yesterday, and that unit remains in patrol status. For the rest of the week no additional burning is planned on the Upper Lake/Covelo Districts.
