On the Upper Lake District, fire personnel completed 48 acres of piles at Westshore this week, which are in patrol status. Burning operations will be slowing down next week over the Thanksgiving holiday, though if precipitations and conditions line up, then crews may potentially continue pile burning in the Westshore project or in the hazard tree machine piles up to 30 acres.
Grindstone Ranger District fire personal have successfully completed 21 acres of pile burning over the last week at Snow Basin, Pacific Ridge and Three Prong. On the Upper Lake Ranger District, fire personnel successfully completed 34 acres of understory burning at Howard Mill and 35 acres of pile burning in the Westshore project.

Last week Upper Lake District fire personnel completed 54 acres of pile burning in the Lake Pillsbury basin (Westshore and Pillsbury Homesites) last week. Burning operations were patrolled over the weekend, and patrols reported no issues with the weather or wind. For this week district personnel are planning an understory burn at Howard Mill for approximately 30-70 acres, pending favorable weather conditions. Ignitions would begin on Thursday, Nov. 2. 
Last week Upper Lake Ranger District completed 24 acres of understory burning at Howard Mill and 50 acres of piles at Pillsbury Homesites, and 4 acres of piles at Westshore. This week district personnel will continue pile burn operations in the Westshore project area, and they are potentially planning to burn 5 acres of piles at Little Doe Campground on Covelo Ranger District. Last week Grindstone District personnel completed 4 acres of pile burning at the Snow Basin Homesites.
For the week of Oct. 16, Upper Lake District staff are planning to conduct ignitions for the Howard Mill Understory burn starting Tuesday, Oct. 17. Fire personnel plan to burn approximately 24 acres, and the burn unit is located east of M1 Road and south of the Penny Pines Campground. On the Grindstone Ranger District, pile burning is planned at Snow Basin for approximately 10 acres starting Monday, Oct. 16.
WILLOWS, Calif., Oct. 6, 2023 — Forest personnel are planning several prescribed fire operations at campgrounds and administrative sites this fall and winter, as weather patterns shift to cooler temperatures and wetter conditions.
