On the evening of July 10, 2022, the fire started 25 miles of Colorado City. Multiple local fire departments responded to assist, along with State resources from Texas A&M Forest Service (TAMFS). TAMFS and local fire department are working in unified command.

7/12/2022: 06:45-A cold front will approach the burn site in the next few hours, resulting in a couple of hours of gusty winds. Otherwise, triple-digit temperatures are again expected, with relative humidity falling to near critical levels. A Fire Danger Statement has been issued this afternoon and evening due to critically dry fuels and ERCs near the climatological maximum for this time of year.
Temperatures will remain above normal Wednesday. Otherwise, winds will remain below 20 mph.
