On August 7, 2024, the Nugent Complex ignited approximately 13 miles southeast of Anson, Texas in Jones County. The fire spread quickly in dry grass, juniper and oak with active fire behavior, including torching, with temperatures near 108 degrees.

Crews are currently focused on operations related to life safety and structure protection, and containment line creation where possible.

In addition to firefighters and heavy equipment, Texas A&M Forest Service has mobilized fire boss single engine airtankers to assist ground crews by dropping water to slow progression and cool the active fire edge.

Texas A&M Forest Service is working in unified command with Jones County and local fire departments. We are working toward full suppression of this fire in order to protect communities and natural resources.
