Around 7 p.m. on July 7, Texas A&M Forest Service received a request for assistance for a fire approximately 6.5 miles north of Newton in Newton County. Agency crews are working in unified command with Newton County.

The fire actively burned in forested lands, including cutover areas and a 30-year old pine plantation, and initially showed very active fire behavior on the right flank of the fire. Four tractor plows and operators as well as overhead and fire managers from Texas A&M Forest Service responded to the incident and worked alongside firefighters from Newton Volunteer Fire Department.

Crews were able to build secure fireline around the fire by the early hours of July 8 and it is now fully contained.
