On the afternoon of June 29, 2021, a fire was started on the North side of Sweetwater within the city limits. Multiple local fire departments responded to assist, along with State resources from Texas A&M Forest Service (TAMFS). Texas A&M Forest Service and Sweetwater Fire Department are working in unified command.
The fire is burning extremely active due to high winds, low relative humidity values, and high temperatures. Three structures have already been consumed as per Sweetwater Fire Chief and several more are threatened, Bluebonnet RV park is also currently under evacuation orders.
