The Bent Willow Fire in Potter County ignited the afternoon of April 4 under extreme fire weather conditions. The fire was actively burning in grass vegetation with rapid growth and high resistance to control as a result of the high wind speeds, low relative humidity and critically dry grass.

County and local fire departments are responding to the fire in addition to Texas A&M Forest Service and the agency is in unified command with Potter County. Texas A&M Forest Service is responding with personnel, heavy equipment such as bulldozers and motor graders, engines, hand crews and single engine air tankers.

Evacuations were issued for residents in Park Circle, Riviera Park and areas North of Givens and west of Highway 287, but have been lifted. Highway 287 Northbound was closed and is now reopened. Potter County Fire-Rescue and the Potter County Sheriff's Office are posting information regarding evacuations and road closures.
