The Burnt Canyon Fire is actively burning in remote, steep terrain approximately 65 miles southeast of Ely, Nevada. About five miles away, the Rosencrans Fire ignited roughly one hour later in similar terrain.
Smoke from the fires was visible along Highway 93 north of Pioche on June 11. Both fires are exhibiting intermittent, wind-driven runs with occasional torching. Fire crews are working to construct control lines to secure the perimeters.
Fire activity continued overnight, resulting in acreage growth. Estimated acreage is provided below and is subject to change.
