The Williams Creek Fire was detected August 29 and is located on the Red River Ranger District approximately five miles west of Orogrande in the Gospel Hump Wilderness. Ground and aerial firefighting resources responded with aggressive initial attack at time of detection, but the fire growth outpaced these efforts. A point protection strategy has been implemented to protect the community of Orogrande and other values at risk.
Update Sept. 29, 2022: The Williams Creek and Twin Lakes fires have recently shown no significant fire activity. This InciWeb page will no longer be updated unless an unexpected increase in activity occurs. Remarks |
Fire managers are using percent completion of objectives, rather than percent containment on both the Twin Lakes Fire and the Williams Creek Fire. Containment implies fire-line around the entire perimeter, directly next to the fire's active edge. Percent completion of objectives more accurately captures and reports the specific amount of work accomplished on the ground to manage fire spread and reduce the negative impacts to communities, infrastructure, and other identified values. Twin Lakes Fire is unstaffed and will be monitored by Forest Service Personnel as conditions warrant. |
Weather Concerns | National Weather Service weather report for Idaho, 9/29: "A widespread wetting rain is expected across the region today and tonight with high confidence. There is about an 80 percent chance that the most of the region will pick up a quarter inch of rain or more by Friday morning. In the longer term, the weather pattern will remain cooler and showery through at least the first part of the weekend." |
