Discovered on August 14th, the Blackburn Fire is located just north of the Heller Creek Campground near the headwaters of the St. Joe River. Several other fires were detected the same weekend, all from a single lightning storm days before. Fire managers prioritized initial attack efforts based on location of new starts, values at risk, and safe access for firefighting personnel. For those reasons, the Blackburn Fire has shifted to a suppression strategy of point and zone protection.
