The South Slope and Roza Slope Fires started on September 12, 2023, at around noon on BLM-managed land along State Highway 821 in the Yakima River Canyon. Local resources provided initial responses to attack the fire and immediately requested air support and assistance from regional mutual aid partners. The two fires remain as separate incidents with a significant amount of unburnt dry brush and grass between them. The cause of both fires is under investigation.
