At 0800 on 10/10/2024 we transitioned from a Type 3 Incident Command Team to a local Type 4. The new Incident Commander is Justin Franklin and Trainee is Ryan Hinojoza.
CURRENT SITUATION: The fire is now at 80% containment, with the crews continuing to put out spot fires and hot spots. Heavy mop-up is still occurring to reach the 100-foot buffer around the containment line. Today the Forest Order goes into effect restricting access into the Herring Creek, Hammill Canyon Loop. Active fire and hazardous standing trees, and their proximity to roads and trails are clear indicators that the fire area is dangerous. Our number one priority is for firefighter and public safety.
There will be an increase activity on the Herring Creek Road today due to the cattle trucks hauling livestock out of area. We ask for the publics help to please stay out of the area for your safety and for the truck drivers hauling the livestock.
FIRE RESTRICTIONS: Forest Order No. STF-16-2024-11, Stanislaus National Forest, Peak Fire Closure. This Order is effective from October 11, 2024, through December 5, 2024, within the National Forest System lands, roads, and trails. The Order is necessary to ensure that firefighting efforts continue unimpeded and to protect the public from the hazards associated with actively burning fire behavior, or until replaced or rescinded.

Weather Concerns | WEATHER: Temperatures are expected to be on a cooling trend toward the weekend, with near to slightly below normal temperatures anticipated by Saturday. Humidity recovery will also see a gradual uptick by the weekend as a weather system moves through the region this weekend. Despite the presence of this weather system, precipitation chances in the vicinity of the Peak Fire are currently less than 10% at this time. |
