On July 24th, 2024, the Park Fire started near Bidwell Municipal Park in Chico, California. The fire quickly spread with rapid rates of spread and extreme fire behavior. The fire is within the boundaries of the City of Chico, CAL FIRE Butte County, and the Lassen National Forest on the Ishi Wilderness.

The fire is burning in grass and brush. These fuels remain very dry. 

Significant Events

The fire continues to burn very actively, especially when aligned with slope and winds. Activity includes
short- and long-range spotting, torching and short crown runs.

Outlook
Planned Actions

Construction of fire line to cease the growth of the fire and protect the values at risk. 

Provide structure protection and assist in the evacuation of the communities affected by the fire. 

Coordinate with cooperators and stakeholders to evaluate and protect property and resources. This
includes public and private timberlands, utilities including communications and power transition and
distribution, and public roadways. 

Projected Incident Activity

With the fire area under Red Flag Warning due to gusty winds and low humidity, the fire will
continue to spread very actively to the north and east. The Red Flag Warning continues through
2300. Fire may also become established in the drainages, including Mill creek and Dry creek.
The fire may also impact the Ishi Wilderness

Remarks

The fire has been zoned into a Butte Zone and Tehama Zone. The Zone line follows the Unit
boundary between Tehama and Butte Units.
