BACKGROUND: 

A new fire was reported to the Angeles National Forest Emergency Communications Center on June 15 at 2:27 p.m. It appears to have started in the Bouquet Canyon/Spunky Canyon area of the forest. Firefighting units from the U.S. Forest Service and Los Angeles Fire Department arrived on the scene quickly. This fire affects commuters who use Bouquet Canyon Road to travel between the Lancaster/Palmdale area and the Santa Clarita area, as well as nearby cabin owners, and perhaps a few weekday recreationists, Smoke could affect nearby residents in the Santa Clarita Valley. On June 15, in the afternoon, a mandatory evacuation order was issued along Bouquet Canyon Road from Vasquez Canyon Road to Spunky Canyon Road. Trail #3414W27 was temporarily closed at Rowher Flats OHV.

On June 15, in the evening, the mandatory evacuation order was rescinded along Bouquet Canyon Road from Vasquez Canyon Road to Spunky Canyon Road. However, this road closure remains in place with police escort for residents only. A small section of Rowher OHV is temporarily closed, including Trail #3414W27. Firefighters are holding the fire at an estimated 11 acres with over 50% containment.

On June 16, the Incident Commander reported a total of 11 acres burned with 95% containment on the Sierra Fire. Bouquet Canyon Road from Vasquez Canyon Road to Spunky Canyon Road remains closed, except for residents with police escort only.
