CURRENT SITUATION: On Tuesday January 7th, 2025, firefighters responded to a fire report near Eaton Canyon in Pasadena, California. Evacuation orders and warnings have been issued for the affected areas. Today’s priority remained structure protection throughout the affected communities. The Mount Wilson communication site was threatened but firefighters were able to successfully conduct a strategic firing operation to stop the advancing fire.

Damage Assessment: It has been publicly reported that approximately 4,000-5,000 structures have been destroyed. This is a preliminary estimate by nonpublic safety personnel. Numbers reported above indicate verified damage assessments completed by field personnel and will be updated with validated information as it becomes available.

EVACUATIONS: For the most up-to-date evacuation information please see evacuation map

To receive evacuation notices Sign up for Alert LA County emergency notifications.

In Los Angeles County, officials will often issue “Evacuation Warnings” when a wildfire may soon threaten a certain area. Everyone should be set to go at this stage and those who need more time evacuating should leave now. When there is an imminent threat to life and property, officials will issue “Evacuation Orders”, which is a lawful order to evacuate and remain out of an area. Everyone should leave when an Order is issued.  In an intense wildfire, danger may be present before authorities can issue an Evacuation Order. Don’t wait to be told by authorities to leave if you feel you are in danger.

Visit the Ready LA County website for more information on emergency preparedness.

DRONE SAFETY - KNOW WHERE YOU CAN FLY:  Drones pose a serious risk to firefighting and can cause air operations to cease. Significant Events

Active Flanking, Backing & Short-range Spotting

The fire continues to burn with a rapid rate of spread through the mountain canyons and further north into the forest. Flanking fire continues to move outward from the perimeter and larger fuels continue to burn interior.

Outlook
Planned Actions

Continue defensive operations and provide point-to-point protection for values at risk. Conduct direct and indirect line construction where feasible. Maintain current containment lines and ensure perimeter control.

Projected Incident Activity

12 Hours: Fire behavior remains active due to critically dry fuels. As winds calm, fire behavior will moderate. Larger fuels will continue to burn and present containment issues with continued potential for short range spotting and a topography driven fire.

24 Hours: Fire behavior will remain active due to critically dry fuels. As winds calm, fire behavior will moderate. Larger fuels will continue to burn and present containment issues with continued potential for short range spotting and a topography driven fire.

48 Hours: As winds calm, fire behavior will moderate. Larger fuels will continue to burn and present containment issues with continued potential for short range spotting and a topography driven fire.

72 Hours: Large fuels will continue to smolder in place with potential for roll out to threaten containment lines. Potential future wind events will play a large role in determining the future fire behavior.

Current Weather
Weather Concerns

An extended period of offshore flow will continue across the burn area into the middle of next week. Critical fire weather conditions will continue across the burn until at least Friday evening. While there will be somewhat weaker winds through this afternoon, the winds will increase again tonight through early Friday. Winds will likely vary significantly between higher terrain and the lower elevations of the fire, as the area is sheltered from the northeast. There is a chance of critical fire weather conditions developing again over the weekend and again between Tuesday and Wednesday.
