Current Situation: On Tuesday January 7th, 2025, at 6:18PM firefighters responded to a fire reported near Eaton Canyon in Pasadena, California. Crews fought aggressively throughout the evening and were challenged by extreme weather and fire behavior. Several evacuation orders and warnings have been issued for the affected area. Resources are currently operating in difficult to access terrain and extreme wind speeds present rapidly changing operational conditions. There have been reports that a number of structures have been damaged and destroyed. However, accurate counts have not been confirmed during initial attack. Damage inspection specialists have been ordered to assess the area. The Los Angeles County Fire Department is in unified command with Angeles National Forest, Pasadena Fire Department, Arcadia Fire Department, Sierra Madre Fire Department, Pasadena Police Department & the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Weather: A Red Flag Warning remains in effect for the area over the fire until 6PM Friday. Tonight, winds are expected to shift to the north at 10-20 mph with gusts up to 45 mph in some areas. Conditions will remain dry and windy through Thursday, with high fire weather risk persisting into Friday under a Fire Weather Watch. Communities in wind-prone areas, especially near Highways 118 and 210, remain at heightened risk for damage and fire outbreaks.

The entire Angeles National Forest is temporarily closed for public safety and the protection of natural resources from today, January 8, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. through Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at 12:00 midnight. During this time, the following acts are prohibited within the Angeles National Forest and San Gabriel Mountains National Monument:
1. Going into or being upon the Angeles National Forest. 36 C.F.R. § 261.52(e).
2. Being on any National Forest System Road within the Angeles National Forest. 36 C.F.R. § 261.54(e).
3. Being on any National Forest System Trail within the Angeles National Forest. 36 C.F.R. § 261.55(a).
