The Black Fire started July 11, 2024 by lightning and is estimated at 8,679 acres with 0% containment. It is spreading south in the Superstition Wilderness and north and east toward Hwy 188.
Several communities and powerlines are threatened, and evacuations are in effect. The Central West Zone Type 3 IMT assumed command of the incident Sunday, July 14.

Significant Events | The fire is spreading at a moderate rate of spread with wind driven runs when fuels and slope align. The following evacuations are in effect: Roosevelt Lakeview RV Park: SET Roosevelt Lake Marina: SET Tonto National Monument: GO Black Brush Ranch: GO Cross-P Ranch: GO Reevis Mountain School: GO The following Tonto Basin Recreation sites are in GO status: Cottonwood Cove Picnic Area Fraser Horse Camp and Group Site Windy Hill Campground (the boat ramp will remain open) Schoolhouse Campground (boat ramp closed) Grapevine Campground (boat ramp closed) (Cholla and Windy Hill boat ramps open for use) The Tonto Basin Ranger Station is closed until further notice due to the fire.
