The Greer Fire started at approximately 11am on May 13, 2025 within Greer proper on the west side of County Road 1120. The wind-driven fire is pushing to the east/northeast along the ridges through grass and pinyon-juniper. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Fuels Involved | Short Grass (1 foot) Predominant fuels are Grass (GR2) and ponderosa pine litter (TL8). Greenup is entirely absent from herbaceous and woody shrub fuels. Shrubs and trees are near 80% foliar moisture. |
Significant Events | Minimal Overnight moisture recoveries ranged from 18% at the Rudd Knoll IRAWS to around 28% at the Greer RAWS. Dry conditions continued into the daytime hours, with single digit relative humidity values across the area. Today was the warmest day on the fire so far, with daytime high temperatures ranging from the upper 70s at 9,000ft to mid 80s at lower elevations. Winds remained on the lighter side, and out of the west-southwest, with gusts to around 25 mph. |
Planned Actions |
A majority of the suppression repair work has been completed and is in the process of being inspected. Patrols continue around structures and populated areas, and around uncontained perimeter. As of today (5/22) crews are working day shifts only. Division A has completed suppression repair and READs have inspected the repairs. Work will focus on patrol around Greer. Division C has reseeded the repaired line and will continue repair on the dozer line around X Diamond Division F will continue repair of fences and work with READs to inspect suppression repair completed along Hwy 260. Division M will rehab dozer line, work with READs to inspect repair on dozer line around South Water Canyon, and conduct medical trainings. Division R will secure and patrol the fire perimeter from DP 24 to DP 44. The last shift for the Structures Division was yesterday (5/21). |
