Pogo Mine Road Fire operations map for 8/24/2023

Pogo Mine Road Fire (#191) is a lightning-caused wildfire 15 miles north of Delta Junction off of the Richardson Highway near Quartz Lake. The fire started during lightning storms at the end of July.

For two weeks, Alaska Division of Forestry and Fire Protection resources from the Delta station responded to the wildfire and protected private property and infrastructure. On August 10 at 6:00 am, a Type 3 Incident Management Team arrived arrived to help manage the Pogo Mine Road and Mount Hayes Fires.

Firefighters are focused on structure protection, which includes point protection on private property, native allotments, and Pogo Mine infrastructure. Aviation resources including Helicopters and scooper planes have helped keep the fire in check during wind events.
