A new start, not connected with the Cedar Fire, but located east of it, began May 21, 2025, at approximately 3:29 pm. The Type 4 Incident Organization managed the initial attack and is currently responding with local resources. The Southwest Complex Incident Management Team 4 will be taking over management of the fire at 6:00 am on Friday, May 23, 2025.

For the safety of yourself and the firefighters, please avoid the area as there will be additional fire traffic.

The area is under Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs). Individuals who have been determined to have endangered manned aircraft or people on the ground with a UAS and/or interfered with wildfire suppression may be subject to civil penalties, including fines of up to $25,000, and potentially criminal prosecution.

Incident Description Firefighters built containment lines by reinforcing roadways, trails, and developing containment lines when needed. The northern and eastern perimeter firefighters performed mop up procedures and structure protection. The southern and eastern perimeter firefighters focused on securing the bulldozer and handlines that had been built throughout the night. Along the western perimeter, firefighters, including multiple hotshot crews, performed direct attacks utilizing the plane and helicopter aerial support to connect the containment lines.

Today, aerial operations took place as Very Large Airtankers (VLATs), Large Airtankers (LATs), Single Engine Airtankers (SEATs), and multiple helicopters responded to the fire. Helicopters performed water bucket drops to strategically address hot spots and spot fires, utilizing Rose Canyon Lake as their dip site.

Projected Incident Activity

Throughout the night, crews will continue to build containment lines and address hot spots. They expected to see decreased fire behavior as the temperature cools and winds decrease.

SET Zones 1/2/3/4/6/7/8/9/10/11/12 and San Manuel residents

Road Closures: W American Ave and American Ave, open to local residents only. Additional closure at S Veterans Memorial Blvd towards San Manuel, open to local residents only.

Evacuation Centers: Red Cross - Canyon Del Oro High School at 25 W Calle Concordia, Oro Valley, AZ 85704. Mammoth Community Center, 101 W 5th St, Mammoth, AZ 85618

Rose Canyon Lake, Oracle Ridge trail #1, part of the Arizona Trail, Cody trail #9, Forest Service Roads 38, 4454, 4458, 639, 859 are closed to visitors.
