At 2:15 pm on Wednesday July 26th, Texas A&M Forest Service received a request for assistance for a fire 3 miles south of the Highway 166/118 junction north of Mount Livermore in Jeff Davis County, Texas. The fire is not currently presenting any threats to structures, but is burning in a very remote location.
In coordination with local fire departments, local Texas A&M Forest Service crews and an air attack plane, or "eyes in the sky", as well as a Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System Strike Team prepositioned in Fort Stockton, initially responded. Ground crews worked to find safe access and will building containment lines using heavy equipment and fire engines into the late hours of the night.
Today crews returned early to the fireline, and will be joined by a 10-person crew module and fireline qualified medical personnel.
Continuing dry and hot weather conditions, with highs in the lower 90's and minimum relative humidity levels in the teens, present difficulties for fire crews safety and in the construction of containment lines.
