OtherAfter 5 p.m. on Aug. 5, Texas A&M Forest Service received a request for assistance on a fire burning 1.5 miles south of Fort Davis along Highway 17 in Jeff Davis County, Texas. The fire is burning in grass and brush fuels.
Texas A&M Forest Service has mobilized the following to assist with response efforts: fire managers and miscellaneous overhead, dozers, engine crews and a suppression crew module from Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS), Emergency Medical Task Force (EMTF) personnel.

| Weather Concerns | Winds will be increasing a bit this evening and into the overnight hours, remaining southwesterly and gusting up to 18 mph. Overnight humidity should climb to the low 40s, drying out on Sunday to around 15 percent. Wind gusts drop off a few hours before sunrise, and the direction will switch back out of the east by late morning. Similar to today, gusty winds will redevelop in the mid to late afternoon, continuing beyond sunset and switching more southerly/southwesterly. High temperatures tomorrow will be right around 100 degrees, and a Heat Advisory is in effect for Fort Davis and all of Jeff Davis County. Fuels in the vicinity of the fire remain around normal dryness or just above normal, which should limit the ease of fire spread. Chances will be very low for storms tomorrow, around 9%, but any storms that develop off the Davis Mountains may result in some lightning and brief, gusty winds. |
