Schneider Springs Fire

Acres: 4,000

Containment: 0%
Personnel: 23

Closures: https://tinyurl.com/2hjd6ws2

Yesterday: A cold front passed through the fire area yesterday afternoon brining extremely gusty winds.  This resulted in wind driven fire behavior with embers traveling long distances and short runs through the tree canopy and ground fuels.

Resources have been scouting for areas for effective containment lines such as areas that have previously burned by controlled fire or wildfire as well as natural barriers.

Operations Today: The incident has transitioned to a Type 3 Incident Management Team, led by Incident Commander Jamie Long. Firefighters continue to focus on public and firefighter safety by engaging in structure assessments and protection operations in the SR 410 corridor, Nile, and Goose Prairie areas.  Strong winds are predicted for the next several days bringing the potential for large fire growth by long-range spotting and significant runs.

Evacuations: Please check with Yakima County Sheriff's office on their official Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/TheYakimaSheriff.

Closures: The Forest Service has issued a temporary closure order for the area of the wildfire as well as adjacent areas as the fire continues to grow. Forest Service Roads 1500, 1600, 1700, and 1800 roads are closed.  For further details, please visit https://tinyurl.com/2hjd6ws2.

Smoke Information: The Forest Service works closely with other federal and state partners to predict and mitigate smoke impacts on individuals and communities during wildfires, visit https://wasmoke.blogspot.com/ for local air quality information.

Fire Restrictions: Campfire restrictions are in effect. Campfires are prohibited throughout the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, including developed campgrounds and congressionally designated Wilderness. — call local ranger district offices for more information. https://tinyurl.com/yby4oysq
