WILLOW CREEK – Communities surrounding the Red Salmon Fire Complex continue to encounter smoky conditions. A persistent ridge of high pressure remains over the fire area, causing the smoke to linger. Smoke remains thick over the active fire area and is mixing with smoke from the August Complex Fire. Temperatures will range in the lower 70s in the valleys lower 80s in higher elevations.

In the northeastern area, fire is steadily backing along the South Fork of the Salmon River to Cecilville Road, filling in near Knownothing Creek as planned. Crews have been mitigating hazard trees, debris, and other potential dangers. Use caution when driving in this area, as roads may be temporarily closed. Crews continue with structure protection in these communities.

In the Cecilville area, firefighters are preparing to widen fire containment lines from the wilderness boundary, to St. Clair Creek, and along Barefoot Ridge. Dozers have successfully completed about a mile of containment line down China Ridge toward Summerville. Firefighters continue working to protect structures in the area of Godfrey/Black Bear/Blue Ridge.

As weather conditions permit, crews are working to perform defensive burning operations near the east branch of New River and continue to implement structure protection around Miller Ranch, in the southern fire area.

The fire is continuing to line up with Horse Linto Creek, in the southwestern fire area. The fire has been holding well in this area for the past few days. An additional fire control line is being constructed along Lone Pine Ridge.
