White River and Irving Peak Fires Update for August 19, 2022

Operations: Fire growth slowed yesterday as it remained cloudy and muggy for most of the day. Smoke and haze also impacted aviation operations, but aircraft were able to drop water on the Irving Peak Fire and will continue air operations today to support on-the-ground firefighters. Additional crews and woodchippers have arrived and will work on brushing and chipping along the Little Wenatchee Road. Near the White River Road. and Tall Timbers area, crews will complete installation of sprinklers around identified buildings and continue with structure evaluation and preparation. Crews are also felling snags along Forest Road 6500 that present a risk to firefighters working in the area.
Evacuations: Chelan County Sheriff's office has issued a Level 3 evacuation (Go Now) for Sears Creek Road, White River Road is at a Level 2 (Be Prepared), and Little Wenatchee Road is at a Level 1 (Stay Alert). Emergency personnel are in the process of advising residents in the area. Residents of five homes were evacuated from the Sears Creek Area.

Fire Behavior: Following a day with little wind and higher humidity levels, firefighters are expecting smoldering and creeping fire behavior, with isolated flare-ups as the skies clear and the sun heats slopes. Sustained backing fire, with active lateral spread is expected to increase in the afternoon.
Weather: Clouds should linger for most of the day. Due to a low-pressure system over the ocean moving inland, there is around a 20% chance of late afternoon storms with slight chance of isolated thunderstorms, gusty winds, and isolated heavy rain.
Closures: The Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest has issued a closure order for the White River Fire area. It is recommended that the public avoid recreating in the Little Wenatchee and White River Road (FS Roads 6500 and 6400) areas. The Pacific Crest Trail is not affected by this fire.
Restrictions: Campfires are not allowed anywhere within the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. Stage 2 Restrictions are now in effect for the entire forest, including campgrounds and wilderness areas: https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/okawen/alerts-notices/...
Pacific Crest Trail: Smoke is visible from the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). While there is currently no impact to the PCT, hikers should be aware that Little Wenatchee Ford and White River Trailheads are closed and cannot be used to access the PCT.
Safety Message: Fire fighter crews and equipment are busy in the fire area. Helicopters and water-scooping aircraft are very active on Lake Wenatchee. Please be prepared to clear areas of the lake where scooper aircraft are operating. Please avoid all areas where people and equipment are working. Be cautious and continue to do all you can to prevent wildfires.
