Johnson Fire Daily Update 09-15-2024
Johnson Fire
Publication Type: News - 09/15/2024 - 09:40
CURRENT STATUS
Firefighters work alongside resource advisors from the Bitterroot National Forest to plan and implement suppression repair efforts using hand tools to pull back berms where crews constructed firelines. Three excavators are working to pull in berms on equipment lines constructed during initial attack. Crews repaired the handlines on the west side of the fire to avoid any damage to the vegetation and soil in the area. Crews successfully extinguished the areas of heat along the southwestern edge of the fire.
Area closures surrounding the fire area are still in effect. These closures are necessary to protect the safety and welfare of the public and provide for safe firefighting operations and access. Fire managers are working in conjunction with Bitterroot National Forest officials to assess the need and potential boundary changes, shrinking the affected area within the closure.
WEATHER AND FIRE BEHAVIOR
Weather conditions and fire behavior on the fireline will likely mirror yesterday. Winds will switch to the northeast with sustained speeds around 12 mph and gusts up to 20 mph. The fire area may see slightly more cloud cover as the next low-pressure front moves in. By late Monday, a storm system will likely enter the fire area, resulting in an inch of rain in the fire area.
