Four Corners Fire Update September 12, 2022

Four Corners Fire
Publication Type: News 09/13/2022

The Forest Closure remains in effect for portions of the Boise and Payette National Forests. The closure prohibits going into or being upon the closed area, trails, and roads. Forecasted favorable weather conditions including cooler temperatures and precipitation may provide ample relief to reopen the area outside of the fire perimeter soon.

A mosaic of unburned areas well within the containment line continue to creep and smolder with fire consuming fine dead fuels on the forest floor, with rare tree torching. Spotting potential from afternoon winds pose the greatest threat while crews continue to expand mop up activity further widening containment lines. Night operations end tonight and take advantage of cool air and increased relative humidity that reduce heat of large burning fuels like stumps and downed logs. Post-fire repair work is ongoing around the fire perimeter, along contingency lines, and within affected communities. This includes debris removal, repair of dozer line, damaged fences, gates, and other infrastructure to reduce the environmental impacts that crews and equipment made during firefighting operations. Crew and resource numbers will continue to decrease rapidly as the threat of this fire diminishes and other threats in the state and region require their services.

Expect smoke to remain visible on the mountain, inside the perimeter within the foreseeable future. Report fire activity or smoke within the fire perimeter call 208-510-8412. Firefighters will continue to monitor the fire area by air and ground and will respond to any fire activity as necessary.
