Moore Square Complex Update 09-08-2024
Moore Square Complex
Publication Type: News - 09/08/2024 - 10:17
Key Messages
Northern Rockies Incident Management Team 9 assumed control of the fire at 0600 on September 6, 2024. The Moore Square Complex consists of the Ace Butte and Anchor Fires that have been burning in the Gospel-Hump Wilderness since late July. Fire managers are preparing identified values at risk for increased fire activity. Currently the location of the fire poses low risk to the values identified but actions are being taken to protect these values with predicted high temperatures and low humidities that can lead to increased fire activity and movement.
Current Status
Crews and heavy equipment have been working to improve fuel breaks and indirect lines along the Wilderness Boundary that were put in place during the Hanover Fire of 2017. Crews have been able to implement point protection on the identified values at risk including private residences, recreation infrastructure, and historic infrastructure. Point Protection is a strategic response to protect identified values and resources without stopping the fires spread. Due to seasonably warm temperatures and dry conditions fire managers are concerned about potential growth of the fire and are taking appropriate actions to protect the identified values at risk using point protection strategies.
Closures
An area and road closure around the fire is in effect due to hazardous conditions and fire fighter safety. Specific closure information and maps can be found on Inciweb at https://inciweb.wildfire.gov/incident-information/idncf-moore-square-complex and https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/nezperceclearwater/home/?cid=fsm91_055753 as they are implemented.
**Future updates for the Moore Square Complex will continue as fire activity and events warrant it.**
