As of 10/30/24, this is what the Incident Command Post at Cant Ranch looked like. Everything from tents to trash cans had been packed up and moved, leaving an empty field.

The Wildfire Recovery Timeline has several phases that can take years to restore fire-impacted lands. The recovery timeline can be broken down into six phases as outlined in the image shared in this post. Some of the phases can occur simultaneously.

Wildfire Closures, Why we have them

Rail Ridge Fire photos from today's helicopter reconnaissance flight

This series of photos shows landscape and the fire effects from this 176,601-acre wildfire caused by lightning. Most wildfires burn the landscape in what is called a "mosaic" pattern.

What is a Mosaic burn patter?
Mosaic patterns are mixtures of totally burned, somewhat burned, and unburned green sections of a landscape.
Mosaic burn patterns create greater diversity in habitat, benefitting wildlife and sensitive plant species. Once regrowth happens, these burn patterns create places for forage, hiding cover, and breeding areas.

How do we repair the damage from the fire?
Different recovery approaches, like reforestation, reseeding, and hazard tree removal, may be taken within different portions of the burned areas due to the variation in fire severity.
