Fire

The fire has burned 89,930 acres. The smaller fuels that normally carry a fire are predicted to have moisture levels that are too high to allow them to burn. Because of that no surface fire, torching or spotting are expected. Fire behavior today should be limited to the smoldering of large dead and down fuels. No progression is expected.

Smoke

Continuing low amounts of smoke as large dead and down fuels smolder. All monitoring sites should have GOOD air quality all day. However, GOOD air quality does not necessarily mean no smoke. Smoke that entered the Gros Ventre valley during drier conditions yesterday will move to the Jackson valley overnight. Grand Teton NP will probably see that smoke this morning at levels that visitors will notice but not at levels high enough to degrade air quality to MODERATE.

Smoke Outlook for October 27, 2024 for Northwest Wyoming - Pack Trail Fire

Image options: [ Full Size ] - [ PDF ]

Fire

The fire has burned 89,921 acres. There is less heat within the fire perimeter due to recent precipitation and the work of firefighters. Fire behavior on most of the fire will be limited to the smoldering of large down and dead fuels. The southwestern portion of the fire received less precipitation than the rest of the fire and fuels are drier. Some interior surface fire and isolated torching are possible in the portion of the fire near Bacon Creek.

Smoke

Continuing low amounts of smoke as large dead and downed fuels continue to smolder. All sites except Grand Teton Park HQ should have GOOD air quality all day. The park HQ will have an average air quality of GOOD but with a brief period of MODERATE late morning or mid-day. The period of MODERATE will be caused by smoke flowing down the Gros Ventre valley into the Snake River valley. The smoke should only effect the portion of the park near the mouth of the Gros Ventre valley.

Fire

The fire has burned 89,852 acres. The rain and snow yesterday has raised moisture levels of all fuels. Small sized fuels that normally carry fire progression are saturated and will not burn. Larger fuels have also had increases in moisture levels but will continue to smolder. Fire behavior will be limited to the smoldering of large dead and down fuels. No fire progression, torching or spotting is expected.

Smoke

Decreasing amounts of smoke as fuels burn out. The rain and snow yesterday will also decrease smoke production as the small sized fuels were put out and will be unable to burn today. The limited amount of smoke should not reach any of the monitoring sites or communities at levels that would degrade air quality. All those sites should again expect GOOD air quality all day.

Fire

The fire has burned 89,645 acres. There had been some drying of fuels since the rain/snow last week. Fire behavior has been limited to smoldering of large dead and down fuels, small pockets of open flame and isolated single tree torching. Fuel moisture will increase again today with this morning’s precipitation. Smoldering and creeping will continue but there should be no surface fire or torching. No fire progression is expected.

Smoke

Decreasing amounts of smoke as fuels are consumed and firefighters continue to mop-up. This morning’s rain and snow will further decrease smoke but not end it as large down and dead fuels will continue to smolder. The limited amount of smoke should not reach any of the monitoring sites or communities at levels that would degrade air quality. All those sites should expect GOOD air quality all day.
