The River Road Wildfire was reported the afternoon of Wednesday, April 12, 2023T the wildfire response was under unified command by the Forest Service, Pennsylvania State Bureau of Forestry and multiple volunteer fire departments. As of 11:00 pm on April 12th the wildfire was estimated at 162 acres, was 30 percent contained, and was named the River Road Wildfire. The wildfire is located in the Marienville Ranger District of Allegheny National Forest and is burning on Forest Service and private land in the vicinity of River, Gregg Hill, and Millstone Roads. The cause of the wildfire is under investigation.

04-14-23 The wildfire is estimated to be 90% contained and an estimated 490 acres in size due to burn out operations that took place on 04-13-23.

04-14-23 at 2:30 PM The wildfire is estimated to be 95% contained and 447 acres in size.  

04-16-23 at 3:43 PM The wildfire is 100% contained. Crews are still assigned to the incident and will continue mopping up as conditions warrant.

0419-23 at 3:15 PM the wildfire was declared controlled.

Significant Events

Initial responders to the River Road Wildfire included staff from the Allegheny National Forest, the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources - Bureau of Forestry, and seventeen volunteer fire departments.

Suppression efforts on April 12th included six, 800-gallon loads of fire retardant dropped by PA Bureau of Forestry contracted aircraft.

04-13-23 Agency staff and volunteer firefighters are actively engaged in establishing firelines and mitigating safety hazards.

04-14-23 Wildland firefighters are focusing on mopping up the remaining hot spots and strengthening the firelines adjacent to private property.

04-14-23 Wildland Firefighters will remain on duty throughout the weekend to monitor the fire area as conditions require. 

04-16-23 at 3:43 PM The wildfire is 100% contained. Crews are still assigned to the incident and will continue mopping up as conditions warrant.

04-19-23  Fire personnel walked the entire perimeter today multiple times and did not detect any smoke or heat. There have been no visible smokes or heat detected for two operational periods. Because of this the River Road wildfire was declared controlled  at 3:19 PM today and placed in monitor status until declared out. Flagging and trash related to suppression efforts have been picked up and removed. This will be the last report out due to decreased activity.

04-13-23 Pennsylvania springtime fire weather - sunny skies, winds 7-10 mph with gusts in the teens, relative humidity has dropped to 20% which is 10% lower than 04-12-23. Fuel moisture level is low.  Allegheny National Forest Fire Danger is posted as MODERATE.

04-16-23  Evening precipitation expected and snow is forecated on Tuesday.
