Highlighted Activity
On August 10, 2024, a small lightning storm passed through portions of the Red River Ranger District, starting the Square Lake Fire, Whistling Pig Fire, Fish Fire, and the Fish 2 Fire. All four fires are located within half a mile of each other: two and a half miles east of Concord, ID, less than a quarter mile east from Square Lake and less than a quarter mile west from Fish Lake.
At the time, resources were sent to directly engage in suppression tactics on each of these incidents. On August 11, fire activity increased on the Square Lake Fire, causing the fire to increase to 30 acres. As a result, all firefighters on each of these incidents have been pulled back from suppression activity, due to the steep and rugged terrain where these fires exist and only having one viable helispot in the area.
Between all four fires, the total acreage is approximately 89 acres.
