 – The Sherwood Fire had multiple spot fires in the afternoon yesterday.  Night shift made good progress using engine crews mopping up and holding areas where spot fires occurred.  Burning operations designed to create and improve containment were also successful.  In addition to spot fires being knocked down, a one to two-acre spot was caught in the Cottonwood Creek drainage. Today, more hose line will be used to assist firefighters with removing heatCrews will be holding and improving containment lines on the fire’s north perimeter and mopping up the south portion while watching for spot fires.
In the air, nine aircraft were able to provide critical arial support.  There is a Temporary Flight Restriction around the fire area.  If you fly, firefighters can’t.  Air resources will be grounded if drones or other aircraft enter the restricted air space.
Today’s weather is forecast to be in the mid-90s, breezy, warm and dry.  Afternoon spot fires are still a concern.  The volatile fuel bed, increasing temperatures and poor relative humidity (RH) recovery means fire crews must stay alert for extreme fire behavior.
