EMERGENCY CLOSURE ORDER RESTRICTING OCCUPANCY AND USE

EMERGENCY CLOSURE ORDER OF THE FOREST SUPERVISOR RESTRICTING OCCUPANCY AND USE, TO WIT: SUPERIOR NATIONAL FOREST CROOKED LAKE FIRE
 
Pursuant to the provisions of 16 U.S.C. § 551, and 36 C.F.R. §§ 261.50 (a) and (b), the following acts are prohibited in the Superior National Forest, due to hazards on portions oflands, roads and Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCA W) entry points and trails in St. Louis and Lake Counties, Northeastern Minnesota. These restrictions go into effect at 12:01 a.m. on Sunday July18, 2021.

Restrictions Enacted on Saturday July 17, 2021 remain in effect.
 
The following are prohibited:

It is prohibited to enter the following entry points, lakes, and Pristine Management Areas which are posted closed. 36 CFR 261.53(e) Special Closures, Public Health or Safety.

1. BWCA W ENTRY POINT CLOSURES:
• Harry Man Trail - Entry Point #11
• Little Vermilion Lake (Crane Lake) - Entry Point #12
• Lac La Croix - Entry Point #12A
• Herriman Trail - Entry Point #13
• Little Sioux River (north) - Entry Point #14
• Sioux-Hustler Trail - Entry Point #15
• Moose/Portage River NORTH - Entry Point #16
• Stuart River - Entry Point #19
• Angleworm Lake - Entry Point #20
• Angleworm Lake Trail - Entry Point #21
• Lac la Croix -Entry Point #71 into and out of Canada
• South Hegman Lake - Entry Point #77

2. BWCA W CAMPSITES, PORTAGES AND LAKES CLOSURE:

• All trails, campsites, portages, rivers and lakes that are accessed by the closed entry points listed above, including but not limited to - Loon Lake, Lac la Croix, Ge-be-on-e-quet Lake, Oyster Lake, Shell Lake, Angleworm Lake, Hustler Lake, Sterling Lake, Ramshead Lake, Lake Agnes, Sterling Lake, White Feather Lake, Chippewa Lake, Gun Lake, Jackfish Lake, Lake Agnes, Fourtown Lake, Nina Moose Lake, Sunday Lake, Wagosh Lake, and Horse Lake.

• All zones of the Sundial Pristine Management Area (1 through 5), and the Weeny Pristine Management Area.

These emergency restrictions are necessary for the public's health and safety due to wildland fires in the vicinity of the affected lands, waters, trails, portages, canoe routes, and all recreation sites. These restrictions will remain in effect for as long as they are posted on-site and until terminated by the forest supervisor.

1. Persons with permit specifically authorizing the otherwise prohibited act or commission (36 CFR 261.50(e)(1)).
2. Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of any organized rescue or fire fighting force in the performance of an official duty (36 CFR 261.50(e)(4)).
3. Persons engaged in a business, trade or occupation in the area, when authorized and when accompanied by a Forest Officer or official member of the Incident Command Team (36 CFR 261.50(e)(5)).

Violation of these prohibitions is punishable by a fine of not more than $5000.00 for an individual or$10,000.00 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than six (6) months, or both (16 U.S.C., 18 U.S.C. 3559and 3571).
