Related Incident:
Publication Type: Announcement
Yesterday’s Accomplishments: The fire is burning in heavy downed timber from a 2016 blowdown event and balsam fir killed by spruce budworm. The fire is active and spotting. Due to the amount of downed timber, safe access to the fire is difficult.
Today’s Planned Actions: As of 6:00 am Saturday, July 10, MNICS Team C assumed command of the fire. Crews will evaluate and begin improving access. A structure protection group will be evaluating structures near Snowbank Lake. Aerial resources will be used as needed to suppress fire.
Weather: Today will be sunny with temperatures ranging from 76-84. Winds are westerly up to 4 mph, shifting to the southeast up to 6 mph in the afternoon. No precipitation in the forecast; the weather will become hotter and drier.
Air Operations: One helicopter is assigned to the fire. A temporary flight restriction is in place over the fire. Drones over the fire area are prohibited. If drones are detected, air operations will stop.
Campfire restrictions: Due to dry conditions, fire activity, and limited resources, the Superior National Forest has prohibited campfires on the Superior National Forest and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
Until this restriction is lifted, campfires are only allowed in approved fire structures that have been installed and maintained by the Forest Service in fee campgrounds. All other campfires are prohibited. For more information, visit https://www.fs.usda.gov/main/superior/home
