Lodgepole Fire on August 13, 2024

As of 6:00 p.m. on August 13, 2024, California Interagency Incident Management Team 14 has assumed command of the Lodgepole Fire. The fire is currently estimated at 5 acres and burning in the Norse Peak Wilderness, north of Highway 410 near the Lodgepole Campground, located within the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. 

The Lodgepole Fire is currently threatening multiple privately owned cabins in nearby Forest Service recreational residence cabin tracts along with the Lodgepole Campground. 

Firefighters and aircraft have been engaged in starting suppression efforts since the fire was reported Monday afternoon. Crews have made access to the fire, started direct fire line construction, and have begun precautions to protect structures that are currently threatened.

At this time Highway 410 remains open for travel. Please use caution in the area due to smoke impacts as well as firefighters and emergency equipment working along the highway.

Fuels are primarily grass, short brush and dead standing snags and large down debris in the Norse Peak fire scar. The fire scar is abundant in large and cured fuels.

Significant Events

Active ground fire observed, in down slash and ground fuels from an old fire scar. Most activity is smoldering, creeping and backing some occasional single tree torching.

Excellent overnight humidity recovery again (60-plus percent or more) with afternoon humidity mainly reading 30 to 40 percent at its lowest. Northwest wind was very strong overnight, with estimated gusts of 50 mph in Base Camp, but weakened during the morning hours to gusts to 20 mph, mainly northwest. Tonight and Wednesday are likely again to have very strong wind from the northwest, with much weaker wind during the peak burning period. Clearer skies will allow warm slightly. Afternoon humidity will lower to the 25 to 35 percent range.
