Update 09:00 p.m., Friday, July 26

The Limepoint Fire is estimated at 1,500 acres and firefighters have been concentrating their efforts on the east flank of the fire. Dozers were working on the line today and crews are conducting a burn out operation tonight. 

The fire is 0% contained.

The Level 3 - GO evacuation for the Cuprum area and Level 1 - SET evacuation for the Bear area both remain in place. 

Update 7:30a.m., Friday, July 26

The Limepoint fire has not entered into the Cuprum community at this time.  The Level 3 GO evacuation remains in place for the Cuprum area, and a Level 1 SET remains in place for the Bear area.  

The fire is estimated at 1,000 acres and is position about 1.5 miles to the west of Cuprum and has not entered in the Cuprum valley from the ridge at this time.

The fire is at the communications tower in Lynes (pronounced as lines) Saddle and the plan for today is to hold the fire at this location and push it back behind the ridge at this communications site.  Firefighters on the ground are being supported by dozers and aerial asset and have placed an order of Large Airtanker support for today. 

An Incident Management Team has been ordered to manage this fire – it is being managed under a Type 3 local incident organization at this time.

Update 10:00p.m., July 25, 2024 - The Adams County Sheriff has ordered a Level 3 - GO evacuation for the Cuprum area, and Level 1 - SET evacuation for the Bear area. 

These evacuation levels were implement based on the current and expected fire behavior.

This is a developing situation and high priority on the Forest.

The fire is now estimated at more than 600 acres and is continuing to move uphill through the canyon.  It is now less than two miles west of Cuprum, and less than one mile away from the nearest structure.

See the photo for a clearer understanding of where the fire is located if you are familiar with the area.  Photo was taken this evening following retardant drops from heavy airtankers.

Firefighters with support from dozers, helicopters and single engine airtankers are assigned to this fire. Located off the Kleinschmidt Grade in Hells Canyon and burning uphill in grass and brush.

For clarification on evacuations. The Counties use the Ready, Set, Go system. Wildland fire mangers make recommendations to the local Sheriff's Office regarding the need for evacuations based on current or anticipated fire behavior. The Adams County Sheriff's Office has informed people in the Cuprum area that they need to be Ready to evacuate due to the Limepoint Fire at this time. The Sheriff's Office has the official jurisdiction regarding evacuations and will be the source for any orders to move the Set or Go levels.
