Northwest Incident Management Team Nine will hand over management of the Potter, Windigo, Big Swamp and Camel Hump Fires to a local Type 3 Incident Management Team on Sunday, September 11 at 7 a.m. This will be the last daily update. For fire information related to these incidents, please contact the Umpqua National Forest at 541-975-2300 or the Middle Fork Ranger District on the Willamette National Forest at 541-782-2283.  

 

RED FLAG WARNING: A red flag warning continues into Saturday for strong east winds and critically low relative humidity. The red flag warning will be in effect until 10 a.m. today.  

 

Windigo Fire: Firefighters continue to conduct suppression repair to minimize effects on cultural and natural resources.  Crews on the Windigo Fire have also been repairing roads that were damaged during suppression efforts.  

 

Potter Fire: The east wind event yesterday increase activity on the Potter Fire, with interior islands of fuels burning and a few single trees torching.  All the activity occurred within the containment lines. Today firefighters will remain vigilant for any spot fires that may occur outside of the containment line. Crew will also continue to mop-up as necessary, which includes seeking out and cooling of heat sources. Firefighters continue to fall hazard trees and backhaul supplies and equipment. 

 

Big Swamp Fire: Firefighters continue to hold and mop up the Big Swamp Fire as needed.  

 

Camel Hump Fire: Firefighters will continue to patrol the area until a season ending event. 

 

Resources: 8 hand crews, 9 engines, 1 dozer, 17 water tenders, Total personnel 334. 

 

Firefighter Readiness: Firefighters are prepared to assist in Initial Attack as needed in the area. 

 

Public Use Restrictions: Campfires are NOT allowed on the Willamette and Umpqua National Forests. For more information visit: 

 

Closures: Road and area closures are in effect for the Windigo, Potter, Big Swamp and Camel Hump Fires. Heavy equipment and firefighters are working on area Forest roads. Please adhere to road closures for your safety and that of the firefighters. For more information visit:
