Cause: Under Investigation

Texas A&M Forest Service received a request for assistance for a fire 17 southeast of Carthage, in Panola County, Texas on August 20, at 3:45 pm. 

Fresh resources returned this morning to relieve the evening shift. Local firefighters, Texas A&M Forest Service, and Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System were able to complete a line around the fire at approximately 3 am on August 21st. Crews are continuing to improve containment lines and complete mop-up operations. Currently, the only observed smoke lies far within the perimeter. 

The area has been and will continue to experience excessive heat and low relative humidity.
