ANational Incident Management Organization (NIMO) Team is managing the Jenkins Creek fire under a full suppression strategy. Ensuring public and firefighter safety remains a primary priority.

Numerous areas of dead balsam fir impacted by the spruce budworm outbreak persist thoughout the fire footprint while areas of green “pockets” of fuel still pose a risk of burning.

Mostly sunny skies throughout the day after a morning of light drizzle dissipates. Temperatures will be in the low 70’s with a mild breeze. There may be a little more cloud cover as the day progresses. A storm moving into Minnesota tomorrow night may pass over the fire area producing some rainfall.

Masticators working between the Cadotte Lake Campground and the Bundle Lake Road made great progress in the lighter fuels and completed 1 ½ miles of fuels reduction along the contingency line today. Crews will continue to work along the Bundle Lake Road working to tie it in with Town Line Road within the next few days. Two masticators on the 420J Road near the northerwestern tip of the fire also made great progress completing 1 ½ miles of fuels reduction though the heavy, dense vegetation that is throughout that area of the fire. The Unmanned Aerial Systems (UA/Drone) units assigned to the fire will continue to map the perimeter of the fire and look for any hotspots in the interior of the fire. There has been no significant smoke or heat located in the interior of the fire for the past three days. As new mapping data from the UAS and ground crews becomes available, acreage of the fire will be adjusted. 

Fire Weather & Behavior: Mostly clear skies today with mild temperatures today will continue into the early evening. The next weather system moves across the area tonight, bringing a chance for rain tonight into Friday morning. Depending on the trajectory of the storm system we may see a minimal to moderate amount of rain. Smoke from the fires in Canada are affecting the air quality bringing hazy conditions to the area. 

Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS/Drone): Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), also known as drones or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), are aircraft operated remotely without a pilot onboard. They consist of the aircraft, a control station, and a command and control link. A UAS can be either manually controlled or operate autonomously, following a pre-programmed flight plan and using navigation systems like GPS. They provide real-time aerial surveillance, enabling better situational awareness and more informed decision-making during fire operations. UAS can also be used for thermal imaging, search and rescue, and even for delivering supplies or igniting controlled burns.

Remember - If you fly, we can’t! No personal Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS)” or drones over or near wildfires. Unauthorized drone flights pose serious risks to firefighter and public safety and the effectiveness of wildfire suppression operations.
