145 Acres Completed at Masterson Prescribed Burn 05-23-2025

2025 Klamath NF Spring Prescribed Burning
Publication Type: Announcement - 05/23/2025 - 09:29

Fire personnel have completed ignitions at the Masterson Prescribed Burn, accomplishing 30 acres of burning on Wednesday (May 21) and an additional 115 acres on Thursday (May 22).

Klamath National Forest personnel were joined by the Smith River Hotshots from the Six Rivers National Forest, Mendocino National Forest Engine 352, an engine and a squad from Quartz Valley Indian Reservation, CAL FIRE SKU Engine 2671, and a crew from MP Forestry to fire and hold the burn. An unmanned aerial system (UAS, or drone) was utilized throughout the burn to assist with ignitions as well as patrol the fireline using infrared technology.

Resources are back out at the burn today, and will be for several days, patrolling lines and mopping up.

Residual smoke will remain in the area for a couple days as fuels within the prescribed burn consume.

The Masterson Prescribed Burn is directly adjacent to residences and is part of a network of fuel reduction efforts by the Klamath National Forest, developed in collaboration with partners, to help protect homes in the area from future wildfire events.
