(Dufur, OR) The Boulder Fire started on July 8 near Boulder Lake Trailhead 26 miles southwest of Dufur in the Mt. Hood National Forest Barlow Ranger District. An estimated 233 acres have burned, and the fire is 100% contained. Objectives will be met by the end of the weekend and, on Sunday at 6 p.m., the Type 2 Northwest Incident Management Team 10 (NW Team 10) will transfer command of the incident to a local incident management team from the Barlow Ranger District.

Narrative: Fuels in the fire area are primarily composed of Grass and shrubs, Timber Litter, and Timber Understory.  The timber is mixed age mixed conifer.  Brush and understory species include huckleberry, ocean spray, vine maple, ceanothus, and manzanita.    Snags and heavy surface fuel concentrations are common throughout.  Fuel type changes occur by management activity, soil type and past fire history.

Narrative:


The fire behavior continues to be minimal with very isolated smoldering in down woody debris, stumps
and logs interior to mopped up areas around the perimeter. The probability of any isolated torching is
extremely low.

Planned Actions

Divisions have been merged. Mop up and repair has been completed. Patrol continues.

Projected Incident Activity

12 hours: Minimal fire behavior expected and will be limited to isolated smoldering in down woody debris and duff interior to mopped up areas. 

24 hours: Minimal fire behavior expected. Limited smoldering in isolated areas interior of mopped up perimeter. The probability of isolated torching continues to be very low. 

48 hours: Breezy conditions anticipated but minimal fire behavior is still expected. Limited smoldering in isolated areas interior of mopped up perimeter. The probability of isolated torching continues to be very low. 

72 hours: Minimal fire behavior expected.

Anticipated after 72 hours: Minimal fire behavior expected.

Weather Concerns

Light westerly winds with gusts to 18 mph over ridges were observed yesterday afternoon. Relative humidity were near 25%. Nighttime relative humidity was good overnight. Temperatures were slightly cooler with highs near 82 degrees.

A slight cooling trend will continue Sunday with highs near 72 along with slightly higher relative humidities. Westerly winds will increase to 8-14 mph on ridges with occasional higher gusts. A cooling trend continues through Monday associated with a cold front along with breezy westerly winds with higher gusts on ridge tops. Temperatures will be near 70.
