Elko Task Force fighting fire on the Paddock Fire

The Paddock Fire was started on the afternoon of August 5, 2024 by lightning. The fire is located approximately 20 miles north of Emmett, Idaho.

Fire suppression resources responded immediately but adverse weather, terrain, and extremely dry fuels hampered initial attack efforts.

Nevada Team 3 assumed command of the Paddock Fire on August 9 and began suppression efforts while providing for public and fire fighter safety as well as preservation of property and values at risk.

The fire has held at 187,185 acres since August 10 while crews monitored, patrolled and improved fire lines.

Suppression repair work also began August 12 with identification and mapping of areas and lines needing rehabilitation.

Weather Concerns

A Red Flag Warning for isolated dry lightning continues. Another upper low is slotted to move in Wednesday night through Thursday. This system appears much more moist so a chance of wetting rain is higher, and the thunderstorm threat will be a bit more widespread especially during the day.

This weekend winds may be slightly higher than normal with 15-25 mph gusts. Overall, the forecast outrside fo storms is warm, dry and still unsettled.
